The eighty-eighth year of these schools will
begin on Monday, October 2, 1893, and will
continue until Saturday, May 26, 1894. The
school year is divided into two terms of seventeen weeks each, the first term beginning Monday, October 2, 1893, and closing Saturday,
January 27, 1894; the second term beginning
Monday, January 29, 1894, and closing Saturday, May 26, 1894.

The schools are closed on Sundays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, New Year's Day, and
Washington's Birthday.

The schools are under the immediate direction of the Faculty, with the supervision of the
Committee on Instruction.

until 5 o'clock, P.M., daily, except Sunday.

Applications for admission will be acted upon
by the Faculty, with the concurrence of the
Committee on Instruction, at the regular meetings held on the Tuesday before the last Wednesday of each month, excepting the months
of June, July, and August.
All applications must be on file on the day
before the meeting of the Faculty.
Those desiring to enter the Antique Classes
must present specimens of their work drawn
from the solid object and executed expressly for
the purpose by the applicant.

Those desiring to enter the Life and Head
Classes must pass examinations in Drawing
from Antique Cast; in Color from Still-life;
in Modelling from Cast; in Perspective; and
in Anatomy.
Students will be transferred from the Antique
Classes to the Life and Head Classes only by
the action of the Faculty after an examination
of their work in Drawing, Painting, Modelling,
Perspective, and Anatomy.

Night Life Class: Drawing and Modelling
from Figure, and Composition.
Night Antique Class: Drawing and Modelling from Cast.
Traveling Scholarship: a ll the above
branches.
Through the liberality of a member of the
Board of Directors, a Traveling Scholarshi p
of $800.00, providing one year's study abroad,
has for the last three years been offered to students of the Academy.
The Committee on Instruction announces
that a similar scholarship for the year 1894-95
has been extended to the schools by the same
member of the Board.
Students of the Academy may compete for
this scholarship by entering the three annual
concours of both the Antique and the Life and
Head Classes.

Students desiIing partial courses including
one or more of the above subjects, will be required to make a special application to the
Faculty, but in such cases they will not be entitled to the privileges accorded to those taking
the full curriculum.
Three COllcours are held during the year,
in which students competing for Honors, Class
Prizes, or Scholarships will be required to take
part.
These C07ZCQUrS will occur a t the end of each
eleven weeks,-namely, the weeks ending December 16, 1893, March 3, 1894, and May 26,
1894,-and are as follows:
Day Antique Class: Painting from Still-life,
Perspective, Anatomy, Drawing and Modelling
from Cast.
Day Life and Head Class: Drawing from
Figure, Painting from Head, Modelling, and
Composition.

The Charles Toppan prizes of $200.00 and
$100.00 respectively, were established in 1881
by the gift of Mrs. Charles Toppan, Miss Harriette R. Toppan, and Mr. Robert N. Toppan.
According to the positively expressed terms
of the gift, the drawing of the pictures will
receive the first attention of the judges.
The works submitted must be original paintings dealing with subjects named by the Committee on Instruction, and all works in competition must be presented on or before \Vednes-

day of the week preceding the Students' Annual
Exhibition, which occurs at the close of the final
school term. The prizes will be awarded only
to students who have worked regularly in the
Academy Schools for at least two years, one of
which must be that preceding the year of the
competition. The awards will be a nnounced on
Tuesday in the week of the exhibition.
No work will be accepted without the approval of the Faculty and of the Committee on
Instruction, and there is no obligation to award
a prize to any work which is not, in their opinion, of sufficient merit.
Class Prizes and Academy Scholarships are
awarded to the successful competitors in the
co1tcours of the various classes.

Payments must be made strictly in advance.
A deposit of one dollar is required for the
use of lockers, modelling stands, and other
Academy property furnished the student. This
will be repaid upon the return of the material.
A student's ticket entitles the holder to the
use of the Galleries, the Library, and the Print
Collection.
