by Blanche Dillaye
Oh glorious trees! of wondrous height,
With limbs outstretched to wing the light,
Enwrapped in peace of other worlds,
Neat through thy leaves God's calm unfurls.
Garnished with smiles, enriched with tears,
Or tempered best with calm of years;
My oaks, thy elms, the author might
Of thy great pines declare some flight.
Unknown of men, aloof from earth,
Its sacred pledge of holy birth.
That pulse, throbs, or flows serene,
Neath austere bark these charms would seem.
In mystic garb, in robes sublime,
That sweep the earth in grace of line;
Uncover there that gift to man
Of God's sure presence in the plan.
