The reverse of the photograph bears the following description: "JOHN RHODEN USES WELDING TORCH FOR SCULPTURES - Prize-winning American Negro sculptor John Rhoden combined glass with four kinds of metal in this huge screen. It forms a wall for a stair-way in the new Sheraton Hotel in Philadelphia. Rhoden molded each piece with a welding torch before the whole was assembled."
