The Winter School sessions were successfu11y . conducted as usual, with
lncrea peclattendance taxing the available capacity.

The Chester Springs School "lPTaS successfully operated for a t'\JIJelve
week period, June 'lOth through August 31st, 1946. War conditions
compelled the discontinuance of this School since 1941.
Summer School at Broad and Cherry Streets was carried on for a six
\ . week period, from June 17th through July 27.

Streets was very extensive alterations to tne r~ofs covering the
eastern end of our building on Broad Street, inc1udlng the large
sklflight over the main entrance stair, giving increased light. The
cast ' iron ventilating lanterns over Galleries A and ,M were completel y removed and replaced by new slcylights at a lower level • . This
work inc1 ]la.ed the general revai:nping of the -vafleys and gutters (30
that a much more adequate rain disposa'l system 1'<JaS accomplished . .
Efforts will be made to obtain contributions for the $21,126.21
expended for thes9 ' repairs and improvements.
New fluor~scent~ighting was installed in all of the studios on the
North side of the City School. The new fixtures give ample opportuni tyto mix the color of the light anc1 an elastic control allows
the use of the minimum to the maxim~ wattage.

January 28, 1942. Our agreement wit~ this firm expires on January 27,1947, and the services of Miss Elizabeth Z. Swenson have
been el'\gaged,beginning February 1st, 1947, as Director of PubliC
Relations, to take over the li\Jork done by Campbell-Wirtz ASSOCiates'
and, in addition; to endeavor to increase the membership and
interest of the publiC in the Academy.

department has hot been active. Howev.er., excellent sel'e ct'ions
from our collection have been on view in the Gc-'llleriesat times
through the year ;;'Then our Permanen~ Coilection 'was shown. -A
selected group of prints was loaned to the School of Industrial
Arts for ~L'1i"Oi tion from· November 13th to t~e 22nd.
The thanks of the Management of the 'Academy are extended to 'the
