rrhe 137th Annual Exhi bi tion of Paintin g and Sculpture vms held in the
Galleries from January 25 through March 1,1942, 'with a Private View on
Saturday afternoon, Jenuary 2L~ from three to five-thirty. This change
in precedent from an evening preview to the afternoon, was necessi tat ed_
by "blackout" regulations issued .through the Office of Civilian Defense.
An Exhi bi tion of the Work of .Mary Butler Vias held in the Galleries from
March 7 through iliIarch 29,19L,2 (Gals. P.,. and B) with a Opening Tea on
March 7th from 3 to 5 P • .tIT.. Concurrent with this li~xhibition was an
Exhibition of recent acquisitions from the Academy's Print Collection
in Galleries Land M and exhibit cases containing material covering the
various processes in the making of etching s, v\loodcuts, and lithographs.

The FellovJship Annual Exhi bi tion of Wa ter Colors and Prints was held
in Galleri e s B,C, and D from March l~. to 29,1942, opening '<\lith a Tea on
March 14,th from 3 to 5 P. M.
The Fe::!..lowship Annual Exhibition of Oil Painting and Sculp ture was
held in Galleries A,B, C, and D from April 5 through 19,19L,2 opening

During both of these Exhi bi tions, the Permanent Collection vvas on vi ew
in the r emaining GallE)ri es.
An Exhibition of Prints by Students of the Academy was held in Gallery C
from May 14 through the 31st,19~, 2.
The Student Bxhi bi tion held in conjunction with the corrrpe ti tion for
the Cresson Traveling Scholarshi ps was on view in Galleries C,D,E,F,G,
the Rotunda B.nd West Central Galleries from May 20th through June 9,1942,
opening with exercises for the students and their friends on the afternoon
of May 20th at 4 ' ot c l oc l<: .

An Exhibition entitled "Soldiers of Production" procured throu gh the
Office of Emerg ency Management, Section of Fine Arts, Was hington, D. C.
was held in Gallery It from May 20th through June 21,1942. This Exhibi.tion
included the paintings and drawings by ei. ght American Artists appointed
by the O. E:.:M. to record acti vi ti es in specifi c defense areas; and the
artists repres ented were Howard Cook, David Fred enthal, George Har(Hng ,
Mitchell Jam.ieson, Richard Jansen, Carlos Lop ez, Reginald Marsh and
Ogden Pleissn er.
During the summer months a ll of the Gall eri es vvere hun g wi tb. selections
from the Permanent 'Collecti on and were dismantled on October 15,1942 to
prepare for the hanging of the L~O t h Annual Water Color and Print Exhi bi tion
and the 41st Annual Exhibition of Miniatures.
The 40th Annual Water Color and Print Exhibition, and the 41st Annual
Exhibition of Mi n iatures were hun g in all of the Galleries with the exCel)tion of Galleries G,H,I,K and the West Central Gall ery from October
25th through November 29th, 1942, opening with a Private View on Saturday
afternoon, October 24th, frOID. 3 to 5:30 P.M •
