'1'he 138th Annual Exhibition of Painting and SCUlpture was held. in the
gall eri es from J anuary 24th through JTebruary 28th, 1943 , with a
Private View on Saturday afternoon, Janua ry 23rd from 3 to 5:30 P. M.
The Fellowship Annual J:!Jxhibition of Water Colors and Prints was held
in Galleries C. and D from March 7 to March 21,1943, opening with a
Tea on March 6th from 3 to 5 P. M.
The Fellowship Annual Exhibition of Oil Painting and Sculpture was
held in Galleri es A,B,C, and D from March 28 to April 11, opening with
a 'r ea on Mar ch 27, from 3 to 5 P e M.

During both of these Exhibitions the Permanent Collecti on was on view
in the remaining Galleries.
An Exhibition of Inter-American Photographs, obtained through the
Pan-American Union, was held from April 8 -25th in three galleri es ,
including the work of 200 photographers of 18 of the American Republics selected as a result of National competition under the auspices
of the Pan-P...merican Union and was possibly the larges t and most comprehensive assembly of Inter-P..m.erican photographic Art ever shown.
Gallery M was hung with 37 chiaroscuros from the Academy's PrintCollection, and Gallery A with 30 etchings by Rembrandt from the Acad emy's
Print Collection, and Gallery N with 9 Vvar posters by Norman Rockwell,
Anton Otto Fischer, Robert Sloan, E. McKnight KaUffer and B. Perlin on
April 26th.
A Special Exhi bi tion _of Naval Defense Acti vi ties - Drawings and Water
Colors by Vernon Howe bailey was on vi ew from April 11 - May 2,1943.
This Exhibition was procured through the Office of Public Relations

of the United' States Navy
The Student Exhibition held in conjunction with the Competition for
the Wil l iam Emlen Cresson Traveling Scholarships was on vieVIT in
Galleries D,E,F, from IVlay 20th through June 6,194.3, opening with
exercises for the students and their friends on the afterncon of
May 19, at 4 P. M.
During the SUIillTier months all of . the Galleri es were hung with selections
from the Permanent Collection and were dismantled on October 11th to
prepare for the h ang ing of the ~.lst Annual W&t,~er Color and Print
Exhibition and the 42nd Annual EllChibition of Miniatures.
The 41st Annual Water Color B.nd Print Exhi bit i on and the 42nd Annual
Exhi bi t i on of Mi ni:m.tures were hung i n all of' the Galleri es wi th the
exception of Galleri e s G,H,I,K, and the Wes t Central Gallery from
October 24th through November 28th, opening wi th a Private Vi ew on
Saturday afternoon , Octo-bel' 23rd, from .3 to 5: 30 P. M.
An Exhibition of British American War Cartoons, sponsored by the
English-Sp eaking Union was hung in Gallery F from November 24th
through December 5th, opening witha' Tea on November 2.3rd, and a
dinrler that evening for the members of the English-Speaking Union in
the Academy's Gall ery G~

been inact ive, with the exception of the purchase of ~ prints.
