The l40th Annual Exhibition of Paintings and Sculpture wa$ held in the
Galleries from January 20th ,through February 25th, 1945, with a ,
Private View on Friday afternoon, January 19th from 3:30 to 6:30 P.M.
The Fellowship Annual Exhibition of Oil Paintings and Sculpture, Water
Colors, Pastels and Prints was held in Galleries A, B, C, ' L and N from
March 10th . to March 25th, 1945, opening with a tea on March 9th from
3 to 5:30 P.M.
'
A juried show of student 'work , sponsored by the Fellowship, was also
held ' from March 10th to March 25th.
A Retrospective Exhibition of the Paintings, Drawings and Etchings by

Daniel Garber was held in Galleries C, D, E and Ffrom April 3rd to
April 29th with a private View -on April 2nd from 4 to 6 P.M.
During these Exhibitions the Permanent Collection was on view in the
remaining Galleries.
The Student Exhibition held in conjunction with the Competition for
the William Emlen Cresson Traveling Scholarships was on view in Gallery
F from May ' 24th through Jun e 3rd , 1945, openin g with excercises for the
students and their friends on the afternoon of May 23rd at 4· P.M.
During the summer months all of the ' galleries were hung ' with selections
from the Permanent Collection and were desmantled on October 9th to
prepare for the hanging of the 43rd Annual Water Color and Print
Exhibition , and the 44th Annual Exhibition of Miniatures.

The 43rdAnnual Water Color and Print Exhibition and the 44th Annual
~xhibltion of Miniatures were hung in all of the Galleries with the
exception of Gall ,e rie's G, H, I, and K, end a group of cartoons was
inc-luded in the exhi bi tion in Gallery D from Oc_tober 20th through
November 25th, 1945, opening with a Private View on Friday afte'rnoon,
October 9th, from 4 to 6: 30 P.Me '

' The Winter School session not being co-incident in dates with this
Annual Report, a general statement is made relJOrting successfully
active departments with good physical conditions.
The Chester Springs Summer School was not opened in the season of
1945, due to war conditions, but a 6.- week Summer School was held at
Broad and Cherry Streets from June 1.8th to July 2,8th, 1945.

only general maintenance and normal repairs were accomplished', However,

A special note is in'cluded that the publicity has been retained in the
hands of the Canipbell-Wirtz Associates of 329 Walnut Street, Philadelphia,
which firm has been handling it since January 28, 1942.

LIBRARY

The work of the Library is ' handicap,e d without a librarian. . There has
been no one in this position throughout this current yeare Miss
Martha Schick has her desk in the library and has endeavored, in conjunction with her work for membership, to record lending and a general
check on' all books.
'
The clipping file on artists has been continued in a small way through
the year, 1945, as has also the reference file of photographs of animals
and miscellaneous su1D)j ects ,supplemented by newspaper and magazine
clippings.

COL L E C T ION

There has been no Curator of Prints throughout this current year and
" thi,s department has been almost inactive. HO\~ever, excellent groups
jave been on view in the galleries at times through the year when out
Permanent Collection was shown.
The thanks of the Management of the Academy are extended to the
President and members of the Board of Education for sending promising
students to our Schools, and. to. the newspapBrs for their intelligent
criticisms and general inclusion of items of news relative to the
Academy.
Acknowledgement is also made to all the, employees of the Academy _for
the faithful performance of their duties.
