The eighty-ninth year of these schools will
begin on Monday, October I, 1894, and will
continue until Saturday, May 25, 1895. The
school year is divided into two terms of seventeen weeks each, the first term beginning Monday, October I, 1894, and closing Saturday,
January 26, 1895; the second term beginnin g
Monday, January 28, 1895, and closing Saturday, May 25, 1895.
The schools are closed on Sundays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, New Year's Day, and
\Vashington's Birthday.

Applications for admission will be acted upon
by the Faculty, with the concurrence of the
Committee on Instruction, at the re"ular meetings held on the Tuesday before the" last \-Vednesday of each month, excepting the months
of June, July, and August.
All applications must be on file on the day
before the meeting of the Faculty.
Those desiring to enter the Antique Classes
must present signed specimens of their work
drawn from the solid object and executed ex·
pressly for the purpose by the applicant.
Students will be transferred from the Antique
Classes to the Life and Head Classes only by
the action of the Faculty after an examination

of their work in Drawing, Painting, Modelling,
Perspective, and Anatomy.
All others desiri ng to enter the Life and
Head Classes must pass examinations in Dra\\,ing from Antique Cast; in Color from Still-life;
in Modelling from Cast; in Perspective; and
in Anatomy.
Students desiring partial courses including
one or more of the above subjects, will be required to make a special application to the
Faculty, but in such cases they will not be entitled to the privileges accorded to those taking
the full curriculum.
Three COl1COltJ'S are held during the year.
\Vithout taking part in these, no student can
compete for Honors, Class Prizes, or Scholarshi ps.
These COJlCOlirs will occur at the end of each
eleven weeks,-namely, the weeks ending December IS, 1894, March 2, 1895, and May 18,
I895,-and are as follows:
Day Life and Head Class: Drawing from
Figure, Painting from Head, Modelling, and
Composi tion.
Day Antique Class: Painting from Still-life,
Perspective, Anatomy, Drawing and Modelling
from Cast.
Night Life Class: Drawing and Modelling
from Figure, and Composition.
Night Antique Class: Drawing and ModelIi ng from Cast.

Traveling Scholarship:

Through the liberality of a member of the
Board of Directors, a Traveling Scholarship
of $800.00, providing' one year's study abroad,
has for the last four years been offered to
students of the Academy.
The Committee on Instruction announ ces
that a similar scholarship for the year 1895-96
has been extended to the schools by the same
member of the Board .
In order to compete for this scholar,hip, students of the Academy mu st enter the th ree
annual cO" ('O l/rs of both the Antique and the
Life and Head Classes.
The Charles Toppan pri zes of $200.00 a nd
~ I 00.00 respecti veIl', were established in 188 1
by the gift of Mrs. Charles Toppan, i\liss lJ arrielte R. Toppan, and Mr. Robert N. Toppan.
According to the positively expressed term "
of the gift, the drawing of the pictures will
receive the first attention of the judges.
The prizes will be awarded only to student"
\\'ho have worked regularly in the Academy
Schools for at least t\\'o years, one of which
must be the year of the competition.
The works submitted must be original pai ntings deali ng with subjects named by the Committee on Instruction, and all works in compe-

A payment of one dollar is required for the
li se of lockers. Modelli ng stands , clay, and
other material will be furnished at the charge
of the students.
A student's ticket entitles the holder to the
use of the Galleries, the Library, and the Print
Collection.
