The ninetieth year of these schools will begi n
on Monday, October 7, 1895, and will continue
until Saturday, May 30, 1896. The school year
is divided into two terms of seventeen weeks
each, the first term beginning Monday, October
7,1895, and closing Saturday, February I, 1896;
the second term beginning Monday, February
3, 1896, and closing Saturday, May 30, 1896.

Applications for admission will be acted upon
by the Faculty, with the concurrence of the
Committee on Instru ction , at the regular meetings held on the Thursday before the last Wed nesday of each month, excepting the month s
of June, July , and August.
All appli cati ons must be on file on the day
before the meeti ng of the Faculty.
Those desiring to enter the Antique Courses
must present sig ned speci men s of their work
drawn from the so lid object and executed expressly for the purpose by the applicant.
Students will be admitted to the Life and
I1ead Course only by the action of the Faculty
after an examination of their work in Drawing,
Painting, Modelling, Perspective, and Anatomy.
New students admitted directly to the Lire
and Head Course, a nd th ose who ha ve entered
the Schools too late in the previous year to take
the entire course in Mode lling, Still-Life, Perspective, and Anatomy, ha ve one year in whi ch
to co mplete these branches, and may be admitted to the Life and Head Course on thi s
condition.

The size of canvases mu st be not less than
twelve in ches nor more than thirty·six inches.

property of the Academy at its option.
No work will be accepted Without the approval
of the Committee on Instructio n, and there is
no obliO'ation to award a prize if in the opinion
of the Committee no work submitted is of sufficie nt merit.
F or these prizes partici pation in the COllcours
is not required.
Prizes and Academy Scholarships are awarded
to the students in the various classes having the
highest sta nding in monthly work and in the
COJlcours.
All prizes will be awarded a t the opening of
the Spring Exhibition of the Students.
Exhibitions of the students' work are held
each year in the Spring and Fall.

be required to pay a matriculation fee of , 5.00.
No reduction from these rates will be made
on account of absence.
A payment of one dollar is required for the
use of lockers. Materials for study must be
provided by the students. All articles required
in the classes are for sale in the schools at
lowest prices.
Payments mu st be made, strictly in advance,
to John D. Pierce, Curator.
A student's ticket entitles the holder to the
use of the Ga ll eries, the Libra ry, the Print Collection, and the valuab le courses of Lectures
given under the auspices of the Academy.

For admission to the Life and Head Course, apLIFE AND

ADMISSIONS.
If the applicant has attended the schools for one
season, the following work must also have been completed:
PAINTING FROM STILL LIFE.-Satisfactory to the Faculty.
MODELLING FROM THE CAST .-Satisfactory to the Faculty.
PERSPECTlVE.-Drawings of the nine subjects given on the
last page of this circular to be made in a manner satisfactory to the Faculty.
ANATOMY.-A note-book to be made and submitted for examination, showing a fair knowledge of the points referred to in the Anatomy Lectures.
New students, admitted on their drawings alone directly to
the Life and Head Course, are not permitted to work in the
Life ModeIIing or the Portrait Painting Classes until they have
shown to the Faculty satisfactory evidence of ability in Modelling from the Cast and StilI Life Painting.
New students, entering the schools prior to the beginning of
the second term, and desiring to enter the Life and Head Course
in the foIIowing October, are expected to complete the required
work in the Antique Course by that time; students, entering
the schools after the beginning of the second term, have one
year from the foIIowing October to complete the Antique Course
requirements, and may be admitted to the Life and Head

class, the exact hour being posted in advance on the bulletin

There will be at the same time a general review of
the work of each class by the respective instructors.

the standing of students at the end of the season, and for
awarding prizes or scholarships.
Studies cannot be recorded
or accepted for exhibition unless presented at the Curator's desk
at least a half day before the hour set for the review.
Students
failing to exhibit their work without presenting a reasonable
excuse will not be eligible for any prizes or honors.
Drawings
will not be accepted when rolled or when not carefully" fixed,"

with the student's full name and the name of the class.
The
